To start off our blog this time, here's a photo of our favorite fruit for the moment. These are grown in our area, and we eat about 3 a week. They are delicious!
Wow! What a surprise. We took a trip to Cherbourg to see where we would be living when we move there in October. The Bairds have made it a beautiful place to live. This is by far the nicest room in the apartment, but it is all comfortable.

On our way to Omaha Beach, we drove into St. Mere Eglise, where they have a parachute attached to a mock soldier, reminding us of one of the many interesting stories about D-Day. The real soldier hung here for hours, barely breathing for fear that the many German soldiers below would figure out that he was still alive!
Looking off the path toward Omaha Beach. Looking down here I can barely imagine the challenge those men faced as they had to struggle up these hills facing the withering fire of the troops at the top.
Liz and I at the American Cemetery here in Normandy. We saw people from all over the world who came here, some who used to be enemies but are now allies. It represents real sacrifice.
There's not much I can say about this photo. It shows a few of the graves of the 10,000 soldiers buried here near Omaha Beach. There was a special feeling here, similar to what we felt at Gettysburg.
Liz waving her baguette inviting me to lunch on the other side of a central park in Cherbourg. This is a nice place!
Liz and our friends the Bairds at a flower garden near Cherbourg. The weather is not as nice as La Rochelle, but they have a good enough climate for a lot of beautiful plants.
Here we are with the Bairds, in front of the Ravelet Chateau in Cherbourg. They took us here the morning we left to go back to La Rochelle.
This is the view from our seat on the train from Paris to La Rochelle as we came back from Cherbourg. It is a "bullet" train (TGV) that travels about 130 miles per hour. The train system here is great, and can get you to most of the cities in France. And they are usually on time!
Recently we visited a lady in Niort, about 45 miles from here. She has a pomegranate bush in her front yard, and I thought they looked rather pretty.
We were invited to lunch with our friends, the Rigbys who live just outside La Rochelle. They have lived there for about 6 years, and have a nice home and garden. She is the Relief Society president in our ward.
Our weather is not always beautiful. We were on our morning walk and saw these clouds forming - we headed back as the winds picked up. The rain bypassed us and we didn't get wet.
